Complaints procedure

If something has gone wrong, tell us so we can address it properly.

We aim to provide a high standard of legal service. Complaints are dealt with promptly, fairly and without charge. This page explains how to complain to Theodorous and when the Legal Ombudsman or Solicitors Regulation Authority may be able to assist.

How to make a complaint

Please set out the complaint clearly and tell us how you would like it resolved. You can email info@theodorous.uk with the subject “Complaint”, or write to: Complaints, Theodorous, The Barbon Buildings, 14 Red Lion Square, London WC1R 4QH.

Please include your name, matter reference if known, contact details, the issues you are complaining about and any important dates. There is no charge for making or handling a complaint.

What we will do

We will record the complaint, identify the person responsible for reviewing it and investigate the issues raised. We may ask for clarification where necessary and will consider the file and relevant communications. We will aim to resolve matters as promptly as possible and provide a written outcome.

A legal service provider is entitled to up to eight weeks to deal with a complaint before the Legal Ombudsman can normally become involved. If we have not provided a final response within eight weeks, or if you remain dissatisfied with our final response, you may be able to refer the complaint to the Legal Ombudsman.

Legal Ombudsman

The Legal Ombudsman deals with complaints about service, including how legal work was handled, communication and bills. Generally, a complaint must be referred within one year of the problem happening or one year from when you found out about it, and within six months of our final written response where that response properly gives the required Ombudsman information.

Telephone: 0300 555 0333 • Email: enquiries@legalombudsman.org.uk • Post: Legal Ombudsman, PO Box 6167, Slough SL1 0EH.

Complaints about conduct

The Solicitors Regulation Authority regulates solicitors and law firms. It does not generally resolve complaints about poor service or legal bills; those are normally matters for the firm and, where eligible, the Legal Ombudsman. The SRA may investigate concerns about professional conduct, such as dishonesty, misuse of client money, serious breaches of regulatory obligations or other conduct falling within its regulatory role.

If you believe your concern is about conduct rather than service, information about reporting a solicitor or law firm is available from the SRA.
